The World’s Greatest Ride This year, Lance Armstrong’s last Tour de France could become the world’s greatest ride for people living with cancer. Even after winning the Tour de France a world record six consecutive times, Lance considers surviving cancer his greatest victory. This year, more than ever, Lance says he is riding to help others win the battle against cancer.
“My life’s purpose is abundantly clear,” Lance said. “I’m riding for cancer survivors everywhere –- to help champion their cause, and help them live strong.” As he goes for an unprecedented seventh straight Tour championship, Lance is urging his friends to sponsor his ride by joining Team Lance and supporting the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Survivor Rejects Death Sentence, By Eric Nichols I became a cancer survivor in January 1999. I was diagnosed with a carcinoid in my single kidney. At that time, I had an auto-transplant. I took three months to recover, and then we were on high watch. There was no chemotherapy, no radiation. About two years later, my wife and I weren’t able to have any kids, so I we did an ultrasound, and lo and behold, I had seminoma in the right testicle. We went ahead and had a surgery to remove that.
I went about another year-and-a-half before two more carcinoid tumors showed up. We decided to have those removed. At the same time, they found four more nodules on my liver, and we did resections of the liver. There ended up being a total of seven nodules that they removed at that time. Since then, I’ve been cancer-free as far as we can tell. My wife and I have had an extraordinary relationship through this. She’s always been there for me. She is always there. She’s my best friend.
I’m very active. If I stay strong, that’s going to help me in the future to beat the cancer. When you hear that cancer word, your first thought always is, “It’s a death sentence.” It’s not that way, but a lot of people feel that way. With LIVESTRONG™, ever since I’ve heard that, I practice that. Live strong, be strong. I try to be strong for my family, my wife. I try to be strong for my racing teammates. Strong for other survivors. Try to be strong for everybody, myself.
My name is Eric Nichols, and I’m a five-year cancer survivor.

Why You Should Share Your Story Last year, one simple gesture – wearing the yellow LIVESTRONG™ wristband – embodied the spirit of people who have been touched by cancer. Suddenly, talking about cancer became ok.
Every wristband has a story. The power of these stories lies in our willingness to share them. When we share our stories, we learn from others’ cancer experiences and discover we are not alone in the fight against cancer. And as more people live with cancer, the need for support beyond treatment, specifically emotional and practical support, grows.
One way we can begin to provide this support is to encourage people to continue sharing their stories. Our power in the fight against cancer lies in our ability to unite through common experiences and shared hope. When we share our stories, our experiences take on a deeper meaning; we channel energy, hope and strength to the millions of people living with cancer. In essence, unity is our strength. It is the strength of banding (as one) together. It is the strength of sharing your story.
