Nine Florida Nonprofit Organizations to Receive $500,300 in Grants From The Blue Foundation
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 14, 2005
The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida's (BCBSF) philanthropic affiliate, has approved $500,300 in grants to be awarded this summer to nine nonprofit Florida organizations that are positively addressing health care needs in their communities. The funds will be used by the organizations to provide services such as mobile clinics for Hispanic children, mental health counseling, disease management programs, dental care services and health care and education for the homeless and teen runaways.

"The grant recipients were selected from more than 100 applications because they are offering innovative solutions to key health issues in communities across the state," said Susan Towler, executive director of The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida. "The programs and services selected are reaching Floridians who do not have access to traditional health care options."

Recipients and grant totals are:

* Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida, Inc. (Ft. Myers) $43,000 for one year

* MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation (Jacksonville) $74,300 for two years

* Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative (St. Petersburg) $27,500 for one year

   * St. Joseph's Children's Advocacy Center (Tampa) $50,000 for two years
   * Patient Centered Health Network (Hastings) $100,000 for three years
   * The Barnabas Center (Fernandina Beach) $40,500 for one year

* Community Asthma Partnership of Jax (Jacksonville) $50,000 for two years

   * Trenton Medical Center, Inc. (Trenton) $100,000 for one year
   * Covenant House (Orlando) $15,000 for one year
