Named for Nemacolin's chubby bird logo, "The Flight of the Fat Bird 5K Walk/Run & One mile Waddle Fun Walk" was formerly held as a triathlon. This annual fundraiser that supports The Salvation Army has been modified to welcome participants of all ages and physical abilities. "We're deeply grateful to the good folks at Nemacolin for taking on this event," said Captain Debra Stedman, Uniontown Salvation Army Commanding Officer. "We have had wonderful community support for our past triathlons, including Asbury Methodist Church, The Fayette Striders, Eat 'n Park, Hagen Ice Cream and Verizon. We're delighted that Nemacolin is our leadsponsor this year and we welcome any other friends who want to get involved." Sponsorships for t-shirts and the course are still available. Volunteers and donors are needed. This first-class event will be held on Saturday, July 16th on the grounds of Nemacolin Woodlands resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. Registration is 7:15 am through 8:15 am. Running and walking categories are identified by age ranges that begin at 14 years and younger and extend to seventy years and more. Heavyweight divisions for runners begin at 175 pounds and extend to more than 200. Awards will be given in all categories. Finish times will be posted promptly and will be calculated by SERJ, professional timing service. Adult entry fees prior to July 12th are $15.00 and the student rate is $10.00. After July 12th, adult rates rise to $20.00 and the student fee is $15.00. A special family rate is available for $30.00 for an unlimited number of members with two t-shirts being provided. The Race and Fun Walk begins and ends at the Nemacolin Ski Lodge. Additional family activities will be provided after the race. Refreshments and facilities will be available for those waiting for the awards ceremony, beginning at 10:15 at the lodge. To register, send a check payable to "Uniontown Triathlon" to The Salvation Army, 32 West Fayette Street, Uniontown, PA 15401. For more information, call (724) 437-2031.
