| mrspr.com >Home Releases Non Profits Envoy of German Chancellor Thanks Celesio for Tsunami Aid STUTTGART, Germany, June 8, 2005 Christina Rau, the Special Envoy of the German Chancellor for the joint flood assistance initiative, thanked Celesio AG and its German subsidiary GEHE Pharma Handel GmbH for their involvement in providing aid to the victims of the Asian Tsunami. Chairman of the Management Board and CEO, Fritz Oesterle, received a letter, in which Ms Rau thanked "The employees for their kind donations and the managers who took responsibility for coordination and for liaison with the parent body Doctors for Developing Countries." Celesio and the aid organisation have been working together since the autumn of last year. In addition to logistical and organisational support, the employees, business partners and customers of Celesio and GEHE donated a total of EUR 50,000. Two pharmacists from Lloydspharmacy, the pharmacy chain in the United Kingdom owned by Celesio are soon to start work in Southern India, assisting aid workers. Combining the donations made by all Celesio companies in Europe that were involved in the charitable initiative to support the victims of the Tsunami, a total of around EUR 200,000 was donated to various aid organisations. Doctors for Developing Countries has been in existence for twenty years and so far has organised 3,500 placements in developing countries on a voluntary and unremunerated basis. More than 1,900 doctors have been involved in the projects. The organisation's motto is: "Saving someone's life means saving the world. You can help too!"
