Bald Eagle State Park Visitors, PA DCNR to 'Celebrate Nature' at Day-Long Festival
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 26, 2005
PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Michael DiBerardinis today announced that on Saturday, June 4, the first-ever "Celebrate Nature! Festival" will take place at Bald Eagle State Park, Centre County, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sponsored by DCNR's Wild Resource Conservation Program (WRCP) and Woolrich Inc., the events are geared to link park visitors of all ages with the natural world around them.

"The name of this event is so appropriate as we have so many natural resources across the state," said DiBerardinis. "We have a chance to showcase Bald Eagle's natural resources, and the WRCP's expanded mission of scientific research and education to conserve wild animals and plants."

Woolrich Inc., the oldest apparel manufacturer in continuous operation in the U.S., and one of the few remaining woolen mills, has embraced the Bald Eagle event, which is taking place near their corporate headquarters in Woolrich, Clinton County. The corporation will mark its 175th anniversary at a June 18 celebration in the village of Woolrich.

"Our sponsorship is an extension of our corporate belief to enhance the enjoyment of the outdoors for all Pennsylvanians," said Tim Joseph, director of marketing and media for Woolrich Inc.

WRCP supports non-game wildlife and plant education in Pennsylvania, and manages grants to increase understanding of the natural world. Management costs and education expenses are funded largely by donations and proceeds from otter license plate sales, income tax refund check-offs and program merchandise sales.

Admission is free. Most of the events will be in Pavilion 6 and 7 at the park's beach area. Activities will include 12 youth-oriented events; 12 family-oriented nature walks; 14 educational displays for the general public; and public discussion of four scientifically oriented topics.

Some live wildlife will be on hand for viewing, including an American kestrel from Shaver's Creek Environmental Education Center, and a rattlesnake supplied by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC). From a distance, some nature-walk participants also will have a chance to view nesting bald eagles and offspring.

Optional free registration in advance earns a $2 discount coupon for festival use.
