 | Cruisin': Variety and Fun While millions of tourists flock to Mexico every year by land and air (20.6 million in 2004), the country has also become the world's top cruise destination. According to recent statistics released by Mexico's Tourism Secretariat (Sectur), some 7.6 million passengers arrived to Mexico's ports in 2004, up 15 percent from 2003 figures at 6.6 million.
Sectur recently stated that in the past two decades the number of cruise ships stopping in Mexican ports has increased dramatically, with most major cruise lines now serving the Gulf, Central Pacific and Caribbean.
Mexico boasts two dozen port cities. In addition to being bustling metropolises in their own right, offering the best in shopping, cultural activities and cuisine to the traveler, most ports are also located just a stone's throw from the country's leading archaeological treasures and other attractions. | Mexico's Visual Identity Shift: The Evolution of an Increasingly Sophisticated Tourism Industry
Gone are the days when Mexico would adapt its name to suit the non-Spanish speaking world. Mexico has gone global even more with its authenticity, proudly incorporating it into its international marketing campaigns and visual identity, including its new logo.
Mexico's new logo has undergone an authentic facelift, with the "e" in Mexico boldly topped off with its appropriate accent, as in "é" - also known as the notorious "Alt 130" on keyboards the world over.
With its rainbow of colors, the new country brand expresses Mexico's diversity, richness, warmth and happiness, offering an image that |
| clearly conveys the country's thousands of years of history, from pre-Hispanic times through the Vice-Regal period to Mexico today. From its indigenous elements on the “M” to its enchanting turquoise waves on the "O", the new logo is all about México.
The new image also reflects Mexico's immense natural and cultural wealth. Mexico's new logo better captures the Mexico of today, a complex fusion of the modern and traditional with a global vision that celebrates cultural differences.
The brand strategy was developed based on findings from an investigation and support from specialists in communication and brands. The experts realized the work through different stages: diagnosis, audit of the competition, conceptual platform development, exploratory study of visual elements, creation of alternative visuals, tests of semifinalists, development of chosen logotype, validation, refinement and identity manual. |
