EIGERlab Announces Industry's First Hands-on Micro-Manufacturing Workshop July 12-13, 2005
ROCKFORD, Ill., May 12

Participants to Experience Hands-on Interactions With a Unique and Fully Functional Micro-Factory, Learn About Commercial Applications, Meet With Leading Experts

ROCKFORD, Ill., May 12 -- The EIGERlab, a major center for micro-manufacturing R&D and meso/micro-scale machine tool development in the United States, announced it will host the industry's first hands-on Micro- Manufacturing Workshop July 12-13 in Rockford, Illinois. The workshop will include presentations from the industry's foremost researchers and demonstrations of a variety of micro-machining and micro-measurement techniques. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to work in the EIGERlab Micro-Machining and Machine Tool Laboratory and participate real-time in the development of micro-part prototypes during the two-day session.

Cost for the Micro-Manufacturing Workshop is $195 for both days; participants can make reservations by calling (815) 965-3522 or emailing stennis@eigerlab.org .

Attendees are encouraged to provide CAD information for micro-scale parts and part features of interest prior to the workshop so that these parts can be machined and evaluated during the workshop "hands-on" sessions. CAD files submitted to info@eigerlab.org before June 17, 2005 will be considered for topic material.

Among the presenters and topics during the two days are K.F. Ehmann, Northwestern University, "Report on Micro-Machining R&D Worldwide"; S.G. Kapoor, University of Illinois at U-C, "Miniature Machine Tools (mMT) for Micro-Machining"; Tom Kurfess, Georgia Institute of Technology, "Metrology for Micro-Scale Manufacturing"; K. Rajurkar, University of Nebraska, "Micro-EDM and Micro-ECM", and A. Honegger, University of Illinois at U-C, "Demonstration of Miniature Machine Tool Calibration."
