LOUIS, June 10, 2005 The days of the plunger occupying space near toilets may soon be a thing of the past. S&K Manufacturing, Inc., a St. Louis-based company, has redesigned what we've known as a toilet plunger and made it sleek, efficient, and easy to clean. Clean? Yes, that's right. "Very few people would go to the trouble to clean an old-fashioned suction-based plunger," said David McClaskey, president of S&K. "But our New Plunge cleans in an instant and takes up virtually no room in bathrooms and restrooms." S&K's New Plunge (patent pending) is simply a straight piece of flexible plastic that extends into the toilet. The New Plunge works in two ways: 1. Prior to flushing: New Plunge allows you to prevent your toilet from clogging by using the "slice-and-dice" method on waste so that the toilet will not clog. 2. After flushing: Use the New Plunge as you would a plunger. When used correctly, the toilet area does not become an unsanitary environment - but stays dry and clean. In addition, the New Plunge is easy to clean after each use. Simply use bathroom tissue and run it down the length of the New Plunge, then flush the tissue away. The New Plunge can be hung out of the way - and out of sight - until it's next needed. The final step in creating the New Plunge, McClaskey said, was overcoming the "ugliness" of the plunger. "I've never seen a plunger that was pretty," McClaskey said. "Plungers are generally dark brown or black, and unless it's brand new, you really don't want to touch the rubberized area." The New Plunge has done away with that rubberized design. "It's a thin piece of plastic that can be hung behind or to the side of the toilet, completely out of sight," McClaskey said. While holders for plungers have been made more attractive in past years, the problem has been that after the plungers are used, residue of dirty toilet water builds up inside the holders. The New Plunge is taking that unsanitary box out of bathrooms.
