Pampers Parenting Institute Childcare Experts Offer New Tools for Parents - Free Developmental Record Booklet and Pyramid - at Newly Redesigned Pampers.com
Sesame Workshop Creates Developmental Stage-Related Activities on SesameBeginnings.com to Encourage Parent/Child Interaction and a Love of Learning
Pampers(R), a trusted name in baby and toddler care for more than 40 years, surrounds parents with easy-to-access information regarding their babies' and toddlers' health, development and well-being. With both online and offline resources and long-term relationships with respected parenting resources -- including nonprofit educational organization Sesame Workshop -- Pampers has become a brand that parents look to for support and information as they embark on the thrilling journey of parenthood.
In addition to the parenting content already available at Pampers.com, Pampers is introducing several new resources to further partner with parents. Pampers and the Pampers Parenting Institute (PPI), an independent advisory board of renowned maternal and child health experts, have introduced the Baby Stages of Development Pyramid, an easy-to-reference visual tool that helps guide parents through their child's stages of development from birth to 24+ months. The Pyramid is featured in a new, free Developmental Record Booklet now available to parents at Pampers.com for a limited time. With the Developmental Record Booklet, parents easily can keep track of their child's health and development in one convenient place for use at home and during visits with their child's health care provider. The online home of the PPI board, Pampers.com has launched with a brand new look and easier-to-use navigation to assist parents with questions and information when they need it at any time.
Pampers knows babies and parents. In fact, parents regularly share their thoughts with Pampers on parenting including their successes, frustrations, wants and needs. A recent survey showed that even experienced moms and dads wish for more information about their child's developmental milestones. Yet survey data shows that only about half of parents of young children report ever discussing their child's development with a pediatrician.(1) That's why Pampers is offering new tools like the Pyramid and corresponding booklet for parents to use during well child visits.
"Parenting is a wonderful and challenging journey," said Kirk Perry, North America Vice President and General Manager, Pampers Baby and Toddler Care, and father of four. "To a parent, nothing is more important than raising a happy, healthy baby. Pampers is honored and thrilled to partner with other parents to help them learn more and support their baby's development."
Sesame Workshop, as the producers of the beloved Sesame Street educational TV series, has a long-standing history of helping children as they reach their highest potential. They are supporting Pampers' efforts to bring tools to parents that help them foster their child's development through a series of activities available on SesameBeginnings.com and linked to Pampers.com.
"Parents know Sesame Workshop for its child development expertise, and trust Sesame Street for its broad-reaching and engaging educational content," said Liz Kalodner, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Global Consumer Products, Sesame Workshop. "Our new Sesame Beginnings is a brand specifically designed to provide parents and caregivers with tools they can use to promote interaction between them and their little ones under the age of two. We encourage parents to visit SesameBeginnings.com, to find out more about what they can be doing at each stage of development to bond with their child and help promote early learning."
Baby Stages of Development Pyramid & Activities
Pampers is pleased to help parents make learning about their child a little easier. The Pyramid was designed to provide information on key developmental milestones in a colorful, easy-to-read format. For example, toddlers generally take their first steps at 13 to 18 months, and begin make-believe play at 19 to 23 months. The Pyramid shows how each stage builds on the previous one and encourages parents to anticipate and celebrate the breathtaking changes babies and toddlers undergo in the early years. Consistent with the colors and stages outlined in the Pyramid, Pampers has designed its Baby Stages "Changes with Me" product line-up of diapers and disposable pants specifically for every stage of a baby's development.
To coincide with the introduction of the Pyramid, Sesame Workshop has created a series of activities, available at SesameBeginnings.com , that help foster development and a love of learning through parent/child interactions. They are easy activities that parents can do with their child to support their cognitive, physical, social and emotional development, which can be reinforced every time parents feed, bathe, or play with their child. For example, there are fun games that encourage an infant to visually follow a moving object that are appropriate during the 0 to 5 months stage.
What Parents Told Us
A recent survey of parents with children between the ages of birth and six years sponsored by Pampers(2) shows that sometimes even experienced parents need and want more information about their child's development and key milestones. The survey showed that:
* Only one-third (33 percent) of parents knew the average age for a
baby's first steps;
* Only half (50 percent) knew when to expect their baby's first words;
* An overwhelming 96 percent felt that it was important to have
information about their child's developmental milestones; and
* More than 80 percent of experienced moms said they would have found
information on their baby's development milestones useful once they
had their first child.
"Parents need to feel comfortable asking their health care providers questions about their child's development," said Tom DeWitt, M.D., Director of General and Community Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Associate Chair of Pediatric Education at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, PPI Board member and Chairperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Pediatric Education. "While children develop at different rates, there are milestones parents should anticipate. The Pampers Developmental Record Booklet and Baby Stages of Development Pyramid help guide parents and Pampers.com features a wealth of information that comes directly from other parents, as well as health professionals and childcare experts on the PPI board. I'm thrilled to be a part of the team that helps deliver this important information to parents around the world."
