"The only issue in Illinois is public integrity," says Martin. "That is the one issue. Right now Governor Blagojevich and Democratic leaders are scheming to loot state employee pension funds to 'balance the budget.' It is disgraceful. Republicans have not done much better. Until the political leaders of both parties demonstrate they can be trusted with taxpayer funds Illinois government operates under a cloud.

"Chicago and Illinois are America's capitals of corruption. I will change that.

"As of June 1st, I am notifying Republican Party officials that I am 'open for business' and ready to fight for the gubernatorial nomination. Depending on financial resources we hope to begin media advertising by July 4th.

"I am an unconventional Republican, a moderate conservative, not an extremist. I want to bring Illinois Republicans back to the mainstream from the wacky leadership of the past two years that culminated in the Alan Keyes fiasco. I will fight for union endorsements and support."
