Cortes said today that Pennsylvania's automatic recount law will not need to be triggered for the May 17 Municipal Primary Election. The only item potentially subject to the automatic recount in the May Primary Election was the Growing Greener II Bond ballot question. "Based upon the information we have obtained from each county, there is no need for the Department of State to call for an automatic recount," Cortes said. Act 97 of 2004 provides that any statewide race or ballot question where the margin of victory was less than one-half of one percent of the total number of votes cast for that office or ballot question would automatically trigger a recount in all counties across the state. For more information on voting, call the Department of State's toll-free hotline at 1-877-VOTESPA (1-877-868-3772) or visit the Web site at http://www.votespa.com/.
