Location Changes for Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Announcement
DETROIT, June 13, 2005

WHAT: The Friends of Wayne County Parks will make an important announcement concerning an exciting project at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Gateway Center.

           4695 W. Jefferson, Trenton

           NOTE:  Location has changed from the Detroit River International
           Wildlife Refuge Gateway Center, due to inclement weather.

After the announcement, the following representatives of these organizations will be available for questions: Refuge Manager John Hartig; Anita Twardesky, co-chair of the Downriver Linked Greenways; and Mary Bohling, co-chair of the Downriver Linked Greenways and DTE Energy environmental specialist.

The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge was established under Public Law in 2001 as the first international refuge in North America. The Refuge will conserve, protect and restore habitat along the lower Detroit River in Michigan and Canada. Future plans for the site include the development and building of an environmental education and cultural heritage center. The site will house the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Refuge Administrative Offices, the Downriver Linked Greenways, and the International Wildlife Refuge as a living laboratory for school groups and eco-tourism.
